Mobile shops & services in Heriot
Mobile Post Office and Banking
The Mobile Post Office visits Heriot twice each week and parks at the end of Old Stage Road, at the junction with Shoestanes Road and Heriot Way, or sometimes further down Heriot Way near the underpass.
The Post Office provides a wide variety of services in addition to Royal Mail posting. There is banking access (deposits and withdrawals) with major highstreet banks including RBS and Santander and others. Please visit the Post Office to ask about your bank.
Times for the Post Office are currently reduced to accomodate a mobile service being provided in Melrose since Decmeber 2019.
The Post Office is in Heriot from 12:20 - 12:50 on Monday and 12:20 - 12:50 on Thursday.

(The previous times for the Mobile Post Office were Monday from 12:30 - 14:00 and Thursday from 14:45 - 16:15.)

Mobile Library
Live Borders have slightly changed the mobile library times in February 2023. It will visit every two weeks from Thursday 2nd February: Heriot Primary School arrive 10:00, depart 10:30 and Heriot Shoestanes arrive 10:40, depart 11:00. There are no late fees!

Milk Delivery
The local milkman is Gordon. He delivers milk and much more to Heriot on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. There is cream, butter, yoghurt, eggs, potatoes and fruit juice. Also seasonal fruit, vegtables and more on Fridays.

X95 Bus Service
The X95 bus service from Edinburgh to Carlisle via Galashiels and Hawick is the only timetabled bus service to stop at Heriot. The service is run by Border Buses. The current maps and timetables can be accessed at www.bordersbuses.co.uk/timetables.
The G01 school bus service to and from Galashiels is available for public use.
Borders Online
Borders Online was formed in 2019 through the combination of ‘Stobo Dawyck Community Network’ and ‘Heriot Community Broadband’; each of which had been operating successfully for around 5 years.

Heriot Primary School
Heriot Primary School provides primary education for classes P1 to P7. It is a joint school with Fountainhall Primary School and Stow Primary School with a shared Head Teacher. These are small rural schools with composite classes.
Fountainhall Primary School Nursery is the Early Learning and Childcare Setting from age 3 to school age provided by Scottish Borders Council. The nursery feeds into Heriot and Stow. At Heriot Primary there is an After School Club provided by the Heriot Country Kids charity.

The parent council has produced newsletters to update the local community with school news since spring 2020.

Parent Council
The Parent Council is composed of elected members from the Parent Forum. The Parent Forum includes all the parents of pupils enroled at the school. All parents are invited to come along and learn more about the school.
Organisations and clubs in Heriot
Book Bank and Mini Book Bank
The Book Cabin is situated next to Heriot Kirk church and opens on most Saturdays from 10am to noon. It is full of books - factual and novels. There is a small children's section. The books are for loan to anyone in the surrounding district. The Book Cabin is manned by volunteers and we are always happy to add to the rota.

The Mini Book Bank is a free community library for children (0-12yrs) situated at Heriot Primary School in the outside shelter. Children can borrow books during school time.

Eco Shop and Recycling
The Eco Committee, run by Heriot Primary School pupils, has an eco shop selling a variety of environmentally friendly items. The shop is hoping to restart early 2023. The recycling facility is also restarting in 2023.
Heriot Primary School Community Garden
The children have created a community garden in the outdoor learning area.
Heriot Country Kids
Heriot Country Kids is a charity providing a term-time after school club which is based at Heriot Primary School. It is open to all primary school age children in the surrounding area including Foutainhall and Stow.
The club offers an afterschool service run by a parent's committee and staffed by three childcare professionals. It provides a variety of play and creative activities as well as a range of clubs throughout the school year.
The club operates from 15:15 to 18:00 Monday to Thursday and from 12 noon to 16:30 on a Friday. Parents can book half sessions Monday to Thursday until 16:30. Costs are £5.50 for a half session and £9.00 for a full session.

Baby and Toddler Group
The group meets at Heriot Primary School on Tuesday afternoons, 13:30 to 15:00 and Friday mornings 10:30 to 12:00 (term-time only). All pre-school children are welcome to attend with their parents/carers. A chance for a cuppa and chat for the adults while the children have a fun playtime and snack.
We are currently trialling the second session of the Baby and Toddler group at 10:30 to 12 noon on a Friday at Heriot Primary School. See the Heriot Babies and Toddler Group Facebook page for current information on the group.
Heriot Kirk
Heriot Kirk Church of Scotland and Stow St Mary of Wedale Church of Scotland serve the small, rural parish consisting of the villages of Stow, Fountainhall and Heriot and associated farming lands. The parish is part of the Presbytery of Melrose and Peebles.
Services
The Sunday Worship is at 09:45.
The Wednesday Worship is at 10:30.
Macfie Hall
Macfie Hall is the the village hall for Heriot and the surrounding areas. The hall is available for hire. The Hall Committee is a charity organisation responsible for the running and management of the hall.
